Why choose Gangnam hotels to stay in?

We’d recommend checking out our Seoul neighborhoods guide which lists over 10 different districts we’d suggest visiting or staying in while in Seoul including Myeongdong, Seongsu-dong and Hongdae.

Gangnam hotel guide

Many first timers to Seoul like Myeongdong but if you fancy something with a more varied night-life and massive malls, Gangnam could be the place for you.

It has good transport links (which makes it easier to do Seoul day trips) plus some very cool cafes like Drunken Bean (themed like a New York Subway station), Nudake and Maison Kitsune.

Other nearby Gangnam activities including the nearby Lotte Tower and Lotte Adventure World or go at watch a baseball game at Jamsil Stadium.

Some say Gangnam is a tourist trap which might be true, but it is a fun place to explore. If you’d rather something quieter but still central, we’d recommend staying near Insadong, Dongdaemun or Ikseon-dong.

Booking Seoul / Gangnam hotels – top tips

Once you are ready to start booking your Gangnam hotel(s), there are a few general rules and tips:

  • Peak season in Korea is generally classed as the summer months but you’ll also find room rates are likely higher in the winter because of Christmas in Seoul, public holidays and cherry blossom season (usually in April).
  • We find agoda.com, expedia.com and booking.com have the best room rates for South Korea / Gangnam hotels.
  • Online rates for Seoul hotels are generally better than booking in person. We even had a situation where we tried to extend a Seoul hotel booking at reception (Venue G Hotel) and the staff kindly informed us we should book it on Agoda instead as it would be cheaper!
  • If possible, book your Gangnam hotel rooms several months in advance as the room rates tend to increase in the months before you arrive – also consider making use of the ‘cancellable’ room options that some hotel booking sites have like Agoda.
  • We watch room rate prices in Seoul a lot and they generally rise the closer you get to arrival – some go up a lot in price, especially Myeongdong and Hongdae. So book well in advance if you can.

Josun Palace, a Luxury Collection, Seoul Gangnam

Possibly one of the best known hotels in Seoul, let alone Gangnam, the Josun Palace is the absolute pinnacle of luxury and a popular hotel for visiting celebrities and overseas dignitaries to stay at.

With Art deco interiors and European stylings, you are in for a joyful time at Josun Palace – remodelled over the years, this is one of Seoul’s most beloved hotels described as the first western style hotel to originally open in South Korea in 1914, when it was known as the Chosun Hotel.

If you are a gym bunny, this has one of the largest hotel gyms in Seoul and the pool has nice sunset views – another detail we like is the in-room clothes steamers (we’ve used these in Korea hotels and they are AMAZING)!

One of the few downsides of the hotel is that it isn’t next door to a station as such but if you intend to use taxis or tours, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Andaz amenities include an indoor swimming pool (with trippy LCD screens), a gym and small spa and guests can easily jump onto the Seoul Subway network with the Apgujeong station connected to the same building.

A nice little touch at Andaz is free soft drinks from the in-room mini bar plus local free snacks.

Hotel Cappuccino

This Gangnam mid-range Cappuccino hotel really is ‘cool beans’ (sorry not sorry) and well reviewed online for family stays. It even has an artisan grocery store in the lobby selling nice wines and groceries.

This is also within a 3 minute walking distance of Eonju Station and dog friendly (their Bark Rooms for dogs donate a percentage of all proceeds to local dog charities).
