Korea Starbucks Daegu Jongro Old House (Starbucks Hanok)

There are many beautiful Starbucks in Korea but perhaps the most famous is the Starbucks Daegu Jongro Old House 스타벅스 대구종로고택.

Housed in a hundred year old hanok house with a gorgeous green courtyard, this is a cute and calming place for a cup of Starbucks in Korea (well, if you can get a seat as it can be busy…)

Starbucks Daegu Jongro Old House – what to expect

We visited the Daegu Hanok Starbucks one weekday morning in May 2025. We stayed in Daegu several nights and did lots of Daegu activities like E-World, the BTS murals and Apsan Cable Car.

Whilst in Daegu, we knew we had to visit this Korean Starbucks as someone had posted about it in our South Korea Travel Tips and Planning Facebook group and to this day, it still remains the most liked and shared post ever in the group!

Korea Starbucks Daegu Jongro Old House (Starbucks Hanok)

There are almost 2,000 Starbucks in Korea but this one is one of the most iconic as it is housed in an old hanok, which was originally built in the 1910s. After a previous coffee shop closed down, Starbucks stepped in and opened this branch in October 2022.

When you first walk in, it feels surprisingly modern – and also very busy! All of the inside tables were taken when we visited but luckily, there is a gorgeous garden space outside where we found a table.

Also outside, there is a second hanok building where you can enjoy your coffee – just remember to take your shoes off when you step in.

Daegu Starbucks Garden and Interiors

As soon as you walk in, this likely feels very different to any other Starbucks you’ve likely been to before outside of Korea. However coffee shops in hanoks aren’t a new thing and there are lots of famous cafes similar to this like the Cafe Onion Anguk near Bukchon in Seoul or Ikseon-dong’s Cheong Su Dang dessert cafe.

The interior is very light with wooden beams and rustic features plus huge windows looking out onto the garden.

We were lucky enough to get a table seat in the garden and it is a lovely spot to enjoy a Starbucks coffee and some sweet treats and desserts.

The second cafe sitting area in the garden was equally busy plus there is a toilet block outside (which possibly has the coldest air con in Daegu – it was freezing)!!

Food and drink / prices

As you’d expect, there are lots of good food and drink choices here, albeit it is quite expensive compared to some other coffee shops – but you are kind of paying for the experience and Starbucks has never been the cheapest coffee shop in Korea.

We ordered a pistachio strawberry cake (7,300 Won) and tall hot dolce latte (6,100 Won). We were tempted by all the sweet treats but decided to save our appetite for lunch.

This is also the only Starbucks in Korea where we have spotted the Starbucks Bearista in cake form. Namely a Bearista Chocolate Cream Bun and Custard Cream Bun (7,300 Won each) – or treat yourself to a fresh cream castella cake (4,500 Won) or toffee cream cube bread (9,100 Won).

Starbucks Mugs and Exclusive Merchandise

Collecting Korea Starbucks mugs from all the different regions is quite common and also a popular topic of conversation in our South Korea Facebook group. There are dozens of different Korea Starbucks mugs in colorful designs as part of the ‘Been There’ series.

Daegu has its very own Starbucks mug design – and you can also buy all of the other regional mug designs here too as well as the Starbucks bearista keyrings from all the regions.

This Daegu Starbucks hanok coffee shop also has its own exclusive merchandise including its very own Daegu Starbucks bearista toy stamp, which is only available in this one store. You get it for ‘free’ when you spend 30,000 Won or more in one seating – a very cool Korea stamp souvenir.
