What is Isaac Toast in Korea?

Isaac Toast 이삭토스트 is a popular chain that is famous for Korean toasted sandwiches. It currently has over 850 outlets across South Korea as of 2025, plus restaurants overseas including Malaysia and Macau (branches in the USA and Singapore have closed down).

Korean grilled toast is a popular Korean street food – and it should be said Isaac Toast isn’t the only place to get it (but it is perhaps the best known restaurant brand for it).

Isaac Toast in Korea usually serves up cheese, ham, egg, cabbage, pickle and other toppings layered into two pieces of white bread, coating in butter and then grilled on a hot plate – servers usually put weights on the toast to cook it well.

Their menu consists of around 20 core Korean toasted sandwich types, plus seasonal specials. You can also order sides like potato tots (mini hash browns) plus a choice of hot and cold drinks.

Some Isaac Toast branches provide seating and you can sit in – many are take out only. Although traditionally a Korean breakfast item, it is equally common to eat them for lunch or dinner. Many Isaac toast branches stay open until early evening.

As of summer 2025, there are two popular branches in Myeongdong but they are takeout only – the one closest to Myeongdong’s walking street always has massive queues but the one closer to the subway station is usually much quieter.

Why is Isaac Toast so popular in Korea?

We could just say it is because it is so damn delicious but the main reason is that Isaac Toast prices are pretty cheap / reasonable.

As of June 2025, toasted sandwiches prices at Isaac Toast start from 3,300 won for the basic ham and cheese toasted sandwich (that is around £1.80 / $2.40 USD or $3.70 AUD).

Also, given there are over 800 branches of Isaac Toast, they are very easy to find in the major cities like Seoul and Busan.

The fact there are 20 different core toasted sandwiches on the Isaac Toast menu also means you can usually find something for all tastes – and there are several vegetarian options too.

Our favourite Isaac Toast has to be their classic ham special sandwich consisting of ham, cheese, egg, pickle and diced cabbage covered in swathes of sauce, covered in toasted butter sweet bread – this costs just 3,800 won.

Isaac Toast 2025 prices and ordering

To order at Isaac Toast, some stores have electronic kiosks you can place your order on and then pay using your debit card. The Isaac Toast kiosks have a language setting which you can change to English.

In smaller stores, you have to pay at the counter – we find the tried and tested pointing at the menu approach works quite well!

Whilst not gourmet cuisine, most classic toasted sandwiches cost around the 3,000 to 4,000 won mark and each toastie is cooked fresh, so it is perfect for a cheap meal.

At the time of writing (June 2025), the most expensive Isaac toast is the bacon potato pizza toasted sandwich costing 5,400 won (or make it a combo for 8,300 won).

Each order is freshly cooked and presented to you in neat wrapping  – which is useful because the sauce inside often drips on your first bite!

Religion at Isaac Toast

One thing to note – religion seems to play a key part in Isaac Toast’s philosophy and you’ll often see quotes from the Bible on wall posters and sometimes on the food wrapping.

So even Jesus Christ (probably) loves Isaac Toast – praise be!

Other things to know

  • Some branches (including Myeongdong) have a no photography policy.
  • Most Isaac Toast branches don’t have toilets (we found some quiet / smaller ones that do like in Jeju).
  • Language isn’t usually a barrier as they have Korean / English menus plus laminated copies you can point at.
